It turned out to be a devotional, which stemmed from the Scripture "There are three things that will endure - faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love." (1 Cor 13:13 NLT)

From the moment I read the Scripture, I realized that I came across this Scripture earlier this week. When reflecting on that, I also realized that lately I'd become a bit "critical & intolerant" when relating to certain situations. For instance on the job, I'd get pretty upset when dealing with people that handled their duties in an unprofessional manner or with a so-called "don't care-ish" attitude. Whilst reflecting, it started to become evident that the Lord was ministering to me about my "critical & intolerant" attitude for I was reminded that I'm not perfect and certainly had misbehaved or committed a sin and yet His love towards me endures and His mercy is new every day. I even remembered that we're admonished to "hate the sin and not the sinner", to "love our neighbour as we love ourselves"; and inevitably realized that it was time to repent, and pray for His help through His Holy Spirit to recognize the onset of "critical & intolerant" behaviour AND to enable me to defeat this by "deliberatly choosing" to continue to walk in Love despite of the circumstance.

Another valuable lesson learnt. Said bridge opens at scheduled times to allow sailboats and yachts to access and exit the Simpson bay here in St. Maarten. While I waited for the bridge to close, I suddenly noticed a blind lady walking on the roadside. At first I didn't realize she was blind, but when I did I couldn't help but observe her.

She was walking alone, and didn't have anything except her stick and her senses to guide her. As I observed her I got to thinking about my faithwalk, and realized that she was a powerful sermon about every believer's faithwalk. I was amazed by the fearless, firm and confident way the lady was walking despite her lack of sight, and thought about the fearless firm confidence every believer has to develop as they walk with Christ. I thank God for that sermon for it was truly inspiring to me.

We walk by faith and not by sight.

All things work for the good....

Author's note: originally written April 14, 2006

One of my favorite Scriptures is Romans 8:28: “…all things work together for the good to and for those who love God…”. Can you imagine the degree of comfort and encouragement that Scripture produced within me when I suddenly understood the truth it contains? If not, you’ll be able to better relate once I tell you what I was experiencing at that time:

We all have moments when we find ourselves reflecting on our lives. It was one of those moments for me, and I found myself thinking about mistakes I'd made. At that time I’d just relocated to the Caribbean from the Netherlands. I spent about 4 years in the Netherlands and enjoyed the time I lived there – all was well: I had landed a good job with a huge and prestigious (inter)national entity; I lived in a beautiful and spacious apartment in Amsterdam, which I count as a special blessing since decent housing is generally hard to come by in the Netherlands; I enjoyed my relationships with (new) friends and relatives; I enjoyed traveling around Holland and discovering the newness around me, etc.

I was back in the Caribbean about 3 months when I recognized that my migration to the Netherlands probably wasn’t God’s perfect will nor timing for my life when I moved there. I was quite upset and bothered by this for many reasons, and kept thinking: “I actually wasted 4 years…,how could I’ve commited such a blunder…!!!”.

Do you struggle with mistakes you’ve made? Are you going through a difficult period due to sickness, financial difficulties, a family issue, problems on the job, or the dilemma of a loved one? It could even be something I haven’t mentioned, but I hope and pray that you will also find comfort and encouragement in the Scripture I shared for it specifically states that all things (including mistakes, pain, problems, sorrow, things you don’t understand, etc) work for the good to and for those who love God….

Perhaps it’s a good time for you to stop focusing on the bad and ugly factors that may be burdening you. Perhaps it's time to refocus on your love for God and His love for you. Perhaps it's time for you to give God a chance to proof He's true and well able to take care of you, and all things about you.

Believe me, I've committed quite a few blunders over the years, I have my list of "what ifs..", I've had my share of pain and sorrow, I've experienced moments of despair, but thank God I'm a living sermon of His love, mercy, and faithfulness.

Godspeed,
Sophia

Perfect Vision

Author's note: originally written April 19, 2006

Last January was the end of a 5 month retreat period that I enjoyed immensely. I didn’t work during those 5 months, and I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to be totally off from work and related stress.

I refer to those 5 months as the season that I was in “intensive care”, because of the quality time I spent in the presence of God. At the beginning I didn’t have a clear idea what I was going to do with my time, until God told me to think of Him and His Kingdom. I obeyed His instructions, and He was faithful to do what He promised. You see, He said that He had a lot to tell me if I focused on thinking on Him and His Kingdom. That marked the beginning of a wonderful and memorable season…

The journey was an interesting one for to my surprise God had a lot to tell me about “me”. He gently and lovingly walked me through a process that resulted into His healing me from emotional issues that were hidden deep within me – there were even issues from my youth that I had completely forgotten…yet, healing was needed. The good news is that I was willing to allow Him to lead me through the process. In hind sight I realize that my willingness lead me to personally experience His tenderness.

Today I experience life in a total different light. I guess the best way to express it would be that I feel content and fulfilled….

When I went back to work, I feared missing out on such wonderful quality time with God. The first couple of weeks were tough…I got caught in the busy-ness…, but He didn’t forsake me. He inspired me to keep Him involved in everything I do. I’m now developing a new habit: to regularly think about Him and my desire to pursue His Heart. I honestly think that it helps me to stay on track in many ways, if not all eventually…as He helps me to perfect this new habit. I know it helps to avoid succumbing to temptation. It even helps me to follow His lead better.

We all have goals in life. A goal can also be referred to as a “vision”. What is your vision for your life? If posed that question, my answer would be: to habitually think of God and pursue His Heart. Since He has a good plan for my life, I’m sure to see every aspect of His plan manifested in my life by staying focused on Him.

I know by experience that His Word is true, and that He’s true to His Word. I’m not concerned about any single area of my life, because He said: “Beloved I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers”(3 John 1:2) – that certainly applies to EVERY single area of my life: financially, physically, socially, and spiritually. It's my honest conclusion that this is Perfect Vision that will lead to Perfect Success -- what do you think?

Be Ready at a Moment's Notice....

Author's note: originally written April 26, 2006

At the beginning of this year the Lord told me to “be ready at a moment’s notice”. Over the past months I discovered that HIS instructions tend to be “all encompassing” – in other words, they tend to be applicable in every area of my life.

Not too long after HE gave me that instruction, I end-up flying out to Curacao (a Caribbean island within the Netherlands Antilles) to attend an event to which I was invited. The point I’m trying to bring across is that I didn’t plan to attend the event – I suddenly got the invitation, and had to make a decision “at a moment’s notice”.

A number of things happened since HE gave me that instruction, but I’m particularly fascinated by the latest one (at the time I wrote this article): On April 25th 2006, I was involved in a car accident. I’m extremely thankful to the Lord for I didn’t suffer any physical injury, and the material damage was minimal. I’m able to recount more blessings from that accident, but I’d rather share what I’ve been pondering on.

In the aftermath, I found myself pondering on HIS instruction to “be ready at a moment’s notice”, and realized that it contained more depth than what I initially understood. The accident reminded me of the fragility of life: one can actually die in less then a second. The question is: are we ready? Are we actually “ready at a moment’s notice?”.

Only God knows all things – including the exact date and time of Jesus’ return. Are we ready if HE returns during our lifetime? Are we ready in the event of (sudden) death? Are we keeping our lamps well oiled? How are we using our time here on earth? Are we being faithful and good stewards of everything God has graciously given us?

Remember, all things are possible by HIS grace, and HE’s faithful to answer our prayers. My prayer is that HE grant me the grace to be all that HE calls me to be in every single area of my life. What’s yours?

Can You Lose "The Free Gift of Salvation"?

Author's note: originally written on May 16th, 2006

I recently discussed captioned subject on 2 separate occasions with 2 different people. Both are fellow Blessed Women in Christ, and we happen to share the opinion that it IS possible to lose God’s Free Gift of Salvation. Naturally, you can’t lose what you didn’t receive. Hence, this article serves as “food for thought” for my Precious Brethren in Christ.

Do you recall that awful gift you got on your birthday? Didn’t you wonder if they actually expected you to use it? What did you do with it? Did you give it away, throw it away or stuff it away? How about the best gift you ever received? Didn’t you cherish it? Weren’t you careful not to damage it?

My first automobile was a brand new Nissan sports car. My Dad bought it for me, and I was ecstatic when I got it. I obviously took all my closest friends for a ride, and was extremely careful to park it in areas non-conducive to damage or vandalism. I washed it almost everyday…until the “excitement” wore off. I was still careful where I parked it, but the washing frequency diminished to once-a-week, and sometimes even twice-a-month. Thank God I didn’t “desensitize” to the extent of not arranging engine services in a timely fashion (or not at all). Not doing so would have eventually cause the engine to seize…the once brand new Nissan sports car would have ended up in a “junk yard”…of no use to me (nor anyone else).

How about a costly piece of home décor made out of a delicate material. It’s the owner’s choice as to “where” to display it. Imagine if it’s placed in an area easily reachable by a toddler, and one happens to knock it off the display. Such items usually can’t be fixed, and are often irreplaceable.

Did you ever stop to consider “how” you’re treating the Gift of Salvation that God freely gave you? Since you received it you now “own” it. How are you exercising your “ownership” of Salvation thru Christ Jesus. Are you a “good steward” of this “ownership”? Are you really treating it as a “costly, delicate, irreplaceable, and precious” Gift of God that you received “effortlessly“? So, what do you think: can you lose your Free Gift of Salvation?

Proverbs Devotional

Click on the subject title to enjoy the Devotional.

Psalm 23

I received the following text in an Email. James 4:8 (NKJV)

This is article is especially for those of you who are yet to discover a personal relationship with God. In addition, it’s also for those of you interested in my testimony. Okay…without further ado…this is how it all started:

We’re a family of 4 (consisting of parents and 2 children), and my brother and I enjoyed a reasonably healthy childhood and were raised based on Roman Catholic values. As such, I knew about Jesus Christ, but didn’t know (or never realized) that I could actually possess a personal relationship with my Lord and Savior. I guess the notion of Him being aaalll the way up there in Heaven and not being able to see him kinda clouded my comprehension that a personal and intimate relationship with Him was attainable.

During my teenage years, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I was approached by fellow students who were sharing the Gospel (the good news) of Salvation thru Christ Jesus. They asked me if I desired salvation and explained that it was only attainable thru Jesus Christ. Since I couldn’t recall ever accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I decided to “play it safe” and allowed them to guide me through the sinner’s prayer. I don’t recall the exact date of this wonderful event, but in retrospect I now understand that my walk with Jesus – or rather His walk with me – started since then. Yes, He was walking with me…., because I remained extremely distant from Him and God the Father for many years given my lack of knowledge and proper spiritual guidance.

Years later, I finally decided to accept (one of many) invitations to attend a non-Catholic church service. I enjoyed that service immensely: I had found something that I didn’t realize I’d been searching for nor needed. The Minister at said service had conveyed a powerful message and gave an in depth explanation of the Word of God.

Consequently, I started spending a lot of time reading the Bible and looking at televised religious programs. To this day I enjoy studying the Bible as well as practical Bible teaching messages conveyed by i.e. Joyce Meyer and TD Jakes. About 3 years ago I also started tuning in to programs hosted by Joel Osteen and highly recommend his book “Your Best Life Now” to anyone interested in acquiring information as to how to live life whilst achieving their full potential. Another book that I highly recommend is entitled "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. If you’re wondering about the purpose of life, this book will definitely give you some valuable insight.

I’ve been proper nurturing my spiritual life for 7 going to 8 years now, and I continue to grow in knowledge and understanding of the things of Almighty God. I’m grateful to Him for not giving up on me, and for the wonderful things I’ve experienced and still am experiencing.

Over the years I’ve gradually learned how to “draw near to Him” and I’m truly experiencing His promise to “draw near to those who draw near to Him”. It’s an amazing, fulfilling, and wonderful journey whilst in an intimate relationship with God. I for one am convinced that it has absolutely nothing to do with neither religion nor related traditions for we (Bible-believing Christians from all denominations ie Adventists, Baptists, Catholics, Jews, Jehovah witnesses, Methodists, etc.) can all learn from each other. However, it IS about enjoying (having, possessing) an intimate relationship with God. It’s my sincere prayer that you will be inspired to seek and discover that it is possible to have such a relationship. Be encouraged to “Draw near to God and He will certainly draw near to you”.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://mylife-in-christ.blogspot.com/2006/06/draw-near-to-god-and-he-will-draw-near.html' title='Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. It's my prayer that it will help millions all over the world.

----

How to Stop Cancer before It Starts
by Don Colbert, M.D.

Approximately one out of every three Americans will get cancer in their lifetime. The National Cancer Institute links one-third of all cancer cases to the use of tobacco and another third to the foods that we eat. In other words, approximately two-thirds of cancer cases can be prevented with diet and lifestyle modification.

Chinese and Japanese men and women have significantly lower rates of prostate and breast cancer than American men and women—approximately 90 percent less breast cancer in women and about 90 percent less prostate cancer in men. One of the main reasons for this is because of their high consumption of soy products. Even though the U.S. is the largest producer of soy in the world, Americans consume very little soy protein, if any. The Japanese people alone consume approximately thirty times more soy products than Americans.

What’s so great about soy? Soy contains powerful phytonutrients called isoflavones, such as genestein, which protect women from developing breast cancer and men from developing prostate cancer. Even if one has breast or prostate cancer, genestein will likely slow down the growth and the spread of cancer in the body.

I recommend that all my patients begin substituting soymilk and soy cheese for regular milk and cheese. I also encourage them to consume a soy protein drink daily. By mixing soymilk and frozen blueberries, strawberries, or other fruit in a blender, you can make a delicious and nutritious drink. This is an excellent way to start the day.

Many experts recommend around 35 to 40 grams of soy protein a day, which is the average amount of soy consumed by individuals in Taiwan. If you don’t enjoy soymilk, you can start by drinking half skim milk and half soymilk and then gradually increase the amount of soymilk. Other forms of soy include roasted soy nuts, tempeh, and tofu. One type of soy you should avoid is soybean oil because it is high in polyunsaturated fat. Also soy sauce, which is very high in sodium, should only be consumed in small amounts.

Another diet change I encourage is to decrease the consumption of saturated, polyunsaturated, and hydrogenated fats. This will also help reduce the risk of cancer. Saturated fats are found primarily in fatty cuts of meat, chicken skins, and dairy products—such as milk, cheese, butter, and ice cream. Polyunsaturated fats are found in sunflower oil, safflower oil, corn oil, soybean oil, and most salad dressings and cooking oils. Polyunsaturated fats actually cause more free radical damage to our body’s cells than saturated fats. This can eventually cause mutations in DNA resulting in cancer. Hydrogenated fats are found primarily in margarines and peanut butters.

I strongly recommend substituting extra virgin olive oil in place of polyunsaturated oils.
Additionally, you can decrease your consumption of saturated fats by consuming extra lean free-range meats, skinning chicken, and choosing to bake or broil instead of frying. And eating red meat should be limited to once a week in the amount of about 4 ounces.

I also suggest that adults consume five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day, along with decreasing the consumption of sugar. This is important because sugar actually feeds cancer and decreases the function of the immune system.

Of equal importance is the increased consumption of high fiber foods. These include beans, peas, whole grain breads, oat bran, fruits, and ground flaxseeds. Approximately 25 to 35 grams of fiber is recommended each day.

And finally, begin a regular exercise program. Men and women that are out of shape are 300 percent more likely to develop cancer than those who exercise regularly. A walking program every other day for twenty to thirty minutes is an excellent program for helping to prevent cancer.

By implementing these simple suggestions, along with avoiding cigarette smoke, you can give your body a fighting chance against cancer—stopping it before it starts.

Highly Recommended Literature

Rediscovering the Kingdom by Myles Munroe

I read this book and highly recommend it to anyone...it's an "eye opener"!
Here's additional info to help you decide if you should read it.

Table of Content

Book Description
When governments collapse, human philosophies fail and your life is crashing down around you, Rediscovering the Kingdom will become your guide through the treacherous storms of the 21st century. All of the past ideologies have failed—humanism, communism, totalitarianism, fascism, socialism and even democracy. This is a philosophy, an ideology that will not fail, for it was bore in the heart of God Himself.

As Dr. Munroe unveils the reality and the power of the Kingdom of God, you will be challenged to the core of your religious soul as you discover realities that few have seen, let alone talked about.

Rediscovering the Kingdom will defy almost every concept you have about religion as it shifts the focus away from religion towards the ultimate issue—the Kingdom of God. In this book you will discover:
• The keys that make the Kingdom function in your life.
• Why religion cannot solve your problems.
• Why governments and world leaders continue to fail us.
• Why religion can never fulfill your deepest desire.
• Why power is the pursuit of all mankind.
• The present and future reality of the Kingdom among us.
• The original message and purpose of Jesus.

Called for workplace ministry

Becoming a successful entrepreneur has been one of my heart’s desires ever since my youth. I even started pursuing that desire from about age 18. Back then I was a part-time freelance manicurist and delivered my services to a niche market: the wives of wealthy businessmen originating from foreign countries.

Later in life I set-out to be a fulltime business owner and achieved that objective. I owned an Insurance agency for about 5 years. The business developed well during 4 years, but things rapidly went downhill in the 5th year due to a combination of circumstances – hurricane Louis was among them. Ironically it was also the year I had re-committed my life to the Lord.

1995 was a trying year for me on various levels, but I’m pleased to report that I saw God move in a mighty way whilst saving my business on several occasions – each one at “a nick of time”. In hindsight, I realize that it was a spiritual battle. Little did I know then that it was designed to prevent me from fulfilling part of my destiny: entrepreneurial workplace ministry.

Since the beginning of 2006 I’ve been getting one confirmation after the next that I should pursue this ministry. My preceding post (on May 28th '06) offers an illustration of this, and today I’m impressed to share the following revelation for the benefit of those who are to join this new and powerful global move of God. I for one recognized it as yet another confirmation that I should continue to pursue my heart’s desire for it is He who gave it to me.

Scripture Passage: “…saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive (contain) it.” (Mal 3:10)

Revelation: - God's actions always have purposes. Why would He pour out a blessing to someone fully conscious of the fact that he or she won’t have room enough to receive (contain) it? The answer is simple: there won’t be room enough to receive (contain) it, because it was not meant to be stored (contained). Remember: God also instructs us not to lay up our riches.

The blessing is not meant to be stored (contained), because it’s intended to be distributed among His lords here on earth to accomplish His will and purpose(s) i.e: the advancement of His Kingdom here on earth for we (the Believers) are His Kingdom here on earth. Remember the prayer: "....thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven...".

God is our Source (for everything) and that which He blesses us with (such as the fruit of our labor in the market place) are part of the resources needed to accomplish His will. Hence, this revelation warrants a higher level of "good stewardship" of that which He blesses us with...especially the blessings that come in a measure of "(great) overflow".

Trade Worry for Worship

I enjoy looking at Joyce Meyer's tv-programs. I learn a lot from them, and am also reminded (thru programs I already saw) of practical applications for daily Christian living.

A few weeks ago Joyce suggested the audience to "Trade Worry for Worship". It served as a timely reminder for me since I'd been worrying a bit about accommodation I wanted to arrange for relatives I was expecting from abroad. Considering the limited space at my apartment (among other things), I desired to arrange hotel accommodations for them. My Lord knows my heart, and knew the other reasons I had for wanting to do so. The problem was that I didn't have the spare cash to handle this expense.

I started shopping around about 1 month prior to their arrival and didn't get anything I could really afford without going waaaaay to deep in my pocket. Whilst shopping around I remembered a comment I heard about a certain hotel. This lead me to check on the rates thru a friend that happens to work there.

About a week before their arrival, I decided to follow-up with her and was glad to know that she was working on it for me. I decided to wait patiently, but didn’t understand why she didn’t just give me the applicable rates. While waiting, I caught myself worrying on a few occassions, and immediately "traded my worry for worship" each time by thanking God for taking care of my cares for me.

She called me before the end of the week and was pleased to report that she was able to make reservations for a studio pending my approval. Naturally, I inquired about the cost and was shocked yet pleasantly surprised to learn that it would cost only USD 50,- (for the entire 5 days stay). It happens to be a timeshare resort facility and she arranged it as a courtesy to me (even though I'm not a timeshare owner). Needless to say: I wholeheartedly praised God for this wonderful Blessing! HE took care of things above and beyond my expectations! Brethren it really pays to "trade worry for worship", and I encourage you to do so with EVERY care you have for the Lord is faithfull to careth for them AND you!

Workplace Ministry

I for one am convinced that God is Divinely moving in this area.
Following please find a copy of a message I posted on the Blog of Kathie Thomas, a fellow Believer and new acquaintance. Below the copy of my post, you will find subsequent posts by Kathie that are self-explanatory as to the sequence of events.

In my humble opinion this is valuable information to many within the Kingdom of God. May it Bless each of you within the reading audience that are called for this ministry.

Sincerely,
Sophia

--Copy of my post to the Blog: God-Incidence by Kathie Thomas (location: Australia)

Hi Kathie!

First, a quick intro: my name is Sophia, I'm a fellow believer, a fellow VA, and currently reside in St. Maarten (a beautiful Caribbean island – www.st-maarten.com: the official site of St. Maarten’s Tourist Bureau).

I have to admit that it truly was a God-Incidence experience to me when I "stumbled" on your blog last night -- this for many reasons for it also represented an answer to a prayer.

I fully agree with you: God indeed got something cooking! Due to a recent set of events, I realized that HE's currently Divinely moving in the business/workplace for such a time as this – I honestly believe that we’re at the verge of experiencing a worldwide revolution in this area. (In this case I prefer the use of the word “revolution” instead of “revival”.)

Your testimony “Full Circle” served as a confirmation to me regarding this Divine worldwide move of God. In addition to yours, “A New Breed of Workplace Believers” by Os Hillman also served as a confirmation to me. I hope you’ll have time to read it – it really provoked me unto continued good works. You can find it on the site www.marketplaceleaders.org -- look for the title under the navigation bar “TGIF archives”.

I thank you for being a blessing to me thru your blog, and I pray and hope for prosperity in every area of your life.

Godspeed,
Sophia, April 8th ’06 at 02:07 PM AST

---Subsequent posts by Kathie Thomas. As the day progressed, I knew that HE spoke to me about “Love” as well as other topics. At the end of the day, I was feeling confused, and was wondering what I was supposed to focus on. Hence, I approached HIM and asked: “what’s the point, Lord?”

HE helped me to understand that I was actually “limiting” myself from hearing HIM properly due to a bad perception of how HE speaks. For whatever reason, I’d been under the impression that HE handles one thing at-the-time.

While in HIS Presence, I found myself thinking about conversations I have with other people, and realized that I can have a conversation with duration of for instance 10 minutes and talk about 15 different (and unrelated) things during that 10 minute conversation.

In reply to my question “what’s the point, Lord?”, HE revealed to me that I had been suffering of “selective hearing”. I’m sure glad HE delivered me from that, and by HIS grace I no longer suffer of that “syndrome”. Today I hear HIM accurately, and I'm no longer confused as to “what” HE’s talking about – Alleluia!

My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. - John 10:27
